The proposed changes to the Michigan State No Fault Auto Insurance Policy will do nothing to ease the burden on auro owners. No Fault Insurance as it is written requires you to own an automobile. What about the millions of DRIVERS, who do not own a car. The act of getting a license implies that you intend to drive, ergo every licensee should carry some form of insurance. Cars do not have accidents, DRIVERS do. One owner with three cars must carry three policies, while he can only collect on one. Triple insurance rates with no possibility of collecting benefits on two of the policies. Fraud pure and simple perpetrated on owners and condoned by the State, not just condoned, mandated by State Law. Basic coverage against damages caused by the driver, with optional levels of medical coverage and lost wages is all that every driver should be required to have if he exercises his right to drive by receiving a drivers license. Coverages for any vehicle should be optional. Absolute jail time without basic coverage on a license would insure compliance. Rates should be based on that individuals driving record exclusively and not where he lived or any other criteria. 100% drivers covered should lower the rates on all drivers. If the State mandates coverages it should also mandate how much an insurance company can charge based on statistical risk loss criteria.
